  1. Good grief - it's snowing here, was 70 last weekend, now there is snow on the ground. :o
  2. Well, maybe. I think it had more to do with me shooting the "found" rounds on the shooting bench. I cleaned it up today, and i don't see any real wear in the bolt group. Clearances are still tight.
  3. For some reason I had thought the trigger was inhibited when the bolt was not in battery. Not. Trigger will release the hammer whenever pulled.
  4. If you detail stripped the gun, as in removed the bolt and barrel, or just took the flash hider all the way off, the barrel may have moved to the rear which will cause the spring and/or pin for the bolt catch to come loose and might be sticking out catching on the bolt. That happened to me once or twice. I actually lost the spring & pin the first time I took mine apart.
  5. Well, I cheated. I started buying "extra" .22lr when It was cheap and plentiful, so now I have a bit on the shelf. My go to plinking ammo is Federal Bulk. Used to buy it at WalMart in the 550 boxes for $18. It's pretty good general plinking ammo for the Colt for ranges out to 50 - 60 yards. It has a 36 grain bullet, and my experience with the Colt M4 is that 36 grain bullets start to drift at around 70 to 75 yards. I can still hit targets at 100 yards, just not exactly where I want to. I also use Federal Blue Box, it is 40 grain round nose. I do like Federal, they stand behind their products. Winchester Super X works great, as does BVAC. Also have Win Dynapoint and some CCI "AR Tactical" which is excellent ammo, but was pricey even before the current crunch. Question: Have you contacted Umarex customer service about your issue? If your Colt is a new rifle, you should consider getting it looked at while it is under warranty.
  6. Well, I don't know. It was not a slam fire, I inserted the mag, pulled the charging handle, pulled the trigger and poof. So I am guessing the bolt was not fully seated.
  7. I was at the range last Wednesday, firing my Colt after changing out the hand-guard to the new 15" Troy Alpha. Put a couple of hundred rounds through it with zero issues. While cleaning up, I noticed that a previous shooter had left some unfired rounds lying about. So instead of just chucking them in the dud bucket, I proceeded to load and fire them one at a time. Did 9 or 10 with no issues, then a weird noise, and smoke wafting out of the magazine and lower. No damage to the rifle or magazine, but that last round must have fired while the bolt was out-of-battery. I recovered part of the brass, it was actually still partially in the chamber and the bullet was about 2" down the pipe. Tapped the bullet out with a cleaning rod after I got home. The bottom 1/8" of the brass is missing. I don't like excitement. :o
  8. I didn't notice that you posted SR Green CCIs, I was focused on the velocity, my bad. Yeah these won't be reliable in the Colt. Reasons are - 21 grain projectile it is too light to reliably cycle the action - before the gas can push the bolt all the way back, the projectile has left the barrel, pressure drops and the action is short cycling, hence your FTFs. You will have a better shooting experience if you can get some quality standard or high velocity ammo. Might need to run through 500 rounds before the rifle will "settle in". And remember, .22 semi autos can be finicky about their diets. I think I tried 4 or 5 different brands before I settled on Federal ammo for mine. TM PS - From CCI's website: CCI Short Range Greens "Accurate to 50 yards. Maximum range 3/4 mile. Use in ANSI sporting chambers only - Do Not Use in match chambers. May not function in all semi-automatic firearms. Use only in firearms having standard ANSI sporting barrel/chamber dimensions. 1260 fps in handguns "

Rodent is correct - jackpot! Mine had broken hand-guards, and would eject the clip & 8th round after firing the 7th round. Also had a loose gas tube.

Hey Smurff, some of those sights were greased way back when, and the grease has most likely petrified. A good soaking in an ultrasonic if you have one should loosen it up. Otherwise diss-assembly and new lube. +1 on the "device" :thumb:
  11. Sweet!
  12. Went to the range today, nice weather for the first time in years, well months anyways.... The 30 round mag for my Colt M4/.22lr rifle which has been fully loaded in the safe for 4 years functioned just fine. I did have one fail-to-fire, but that was the ammo.
  13. Next time you have the bolt out, try dropping a round into the chamber. It should drop in and fully seat, if it does not, try the same test with a different brand/flavor of ammunition. If it still doesn't fall in, scrub the chamber with a phosphor/bronze brush. Also, does the bolt go into battery without a round in the gun? In an email from Colt/Umarex, I was told that the recoil spring should be flush for standard velocity ammo, and in 4 turns for high velocity ammo. The muzzle velocity of 1640 fps that you stated is well into the hyper velocity range, and the Colt is not designed for that type of ammo. Pg11. owner's manual: "Attention: .22 L.R. caliber cartridges have a wide range of loads, from very weak for sport shooting and maximum precision to very powerful for a high projectile velocity. To ensure reliable operation, a semi-automatic firearm must be matched to a certain cartridge load. For this reason the cal. .22 L.R. Colt M16 / M4 has been designed for high-quality standard ammunition and HV (High Velocity) ammunition, and one can be sure of trouble-free operation only with these types. Please note that these rifles are not designed for the use of cal. .22 extra long ammunition." So, you might want to try some high velocity ammo and see how that works. TM
  14. Actually, I believe the guy in London was walking 4" deep, the original water walker never got his feet wet..... Re: the music... say what?
  15. Lightly used, had this on my Colt M4 for a while, just upgraded to the 15" rail. This is a Troy licensed air soft rail, made from the same aluminum as regular rails. It is labeled Mil-Sim only - there is no cut-out machined for a gas tube, so this will not fit an actual AR rifle. LNIB with the TRX barrel nut, three add-on picatinny rail sections, hardware and allen wrenches. Installation is fairly easy: but you must remove your front sight tower to swap barrel nuts. After the TRX nut is installed & tightened, the rail slides onto the nut, twist to line up with the lower's top rail and tighten two allen screws. I had a bipod installed on this rail, it is quire sturdy. View it HERE. $60 + shipping. TM Link to installation PDF on my Colt - HERE.
  16. Good luck buddy!
  17. Welcome fellow M-4 owner. Sounds like you have it under control, if not there is a cleaning tutorial HERE.

Nice Smurff, very nice. This really helped me get mine shooting the way I wanted it to. They come out of the CMP functional, but not necessarily finely tuned. Have fun buddy!!
  19. Wow.
  20. Hey Taz, It's bugging me. What can I say. I have been stumbling upon several musicians on u-tube that have me mesmerized. Lindsey Stirling, (LINK) Pentatonix is another.... I start listening to one song, and a couple of hours later I am still watching. Thx, TM
  21. Here is the LINK to a U-Tube video of Dynamo, an illusionist, which is pretty cool to watch. I am trying to track down the musician that is playing in the first few minutes. It is not the music from when the video was originally made, the Romanian poster to u-tube inserted this music without credits. He or she does not answer emails in English or Romanian, and after going through all of the comments, many folk have asked about the music, with no answers. TAZ - HELP!!!! Anyone ever heard this before? I want more of whoever it is........
  22. Thanks Taz & Bluz, I did have the truss rod too tight. 1/4 turn ccw and the buzzing is gone, have to recheck intonation, lower the bridge, rinse & repeat.

Imagine if you will, placing your thumb (was the right one for me) on an anvil, and having it wacked with a 16 oz framing hammer.
