imschur Posted June 18, 2010 Report Posted June 18, 2010 check it out hereMidway sucked me in with a sales flyer
asmurff Posted June 18, 2010 Report Posted June 18, 2010 Is it for plinking or more serious endeavors? I keep looking at the Gamo Whisper, that no one should complain if I shot it in my backyard.
imschur Posted June 19, 2010 Author Report Posted June 19, 2010 It was an impulse buy because it's half price. I have absolutely no plans or for that matter a reasonable reason to own this gun ;D
Microgunner Posted June 19, 2010 Report Posted June 19, 2010 You're contributing to the economy. That's a good enough reason.
techmike Posted June 19, 2010 Report Posted June 19, 2010 Nice looking air popper! I have a Whisper .22 with a Bushnell circle-plex scope, laser and tac light. It's my "urban-critter-getter" ;DTM
imschur Posted June 19, 2010 Author Report Posted June 19, 2010 just spent 50 bucks on pellets....guns are the devil C:-)

techmike Posted June 19, 2010 Report Posted June 19, 2010 I have mixed feelings about the Whisper - it was never not loud - out of the box, the spring made a big twang when fired. Options were to send my new air out for a tune-up. I ordered a gas piston for it to replace the main spring. That noise is gone, but the gas piston is much more powerful, and now I have lots of muzzle noise, plus it's now harder to cock. But it is very accurate.TM
imschur Posted June 19, 2010 Author Report Posted June 19, 2010 Do you guys know anything about mounting scopes on these things?
Microgunner Posted June 19, 2010 Report Posted June 19, 2010 Do you guys know anything about mounting scopes on these things?First off, spring piston air rifles destroy scopes, even good one due to the forward / aft recoil so buy an air rifle scope. Secondly, due to this very same recoil characteristic the rings tend to move in the dovetail so if yours isn't D&T for a Weaver base you'll need to install a scope stop. This is very important on powerful springers or you'll be chasing the group all over the target. CO2 and PCP air rifles don't suffer from these quirks, only spring piston.
rodent.22 Posted June 19, 2010 Report Posted June 19, 2010 make sure it's an airgun scope- the guts of a regular scope don't do well on an airgun, the sharp recoil is what I've read. Maybe I'm hallucinating, but I did see that in more than one place....
imschur Posted June 27, 2010 Author Report Posted June 27, 2010 The gun arrived. I expected it to be made in China but It was made in Spain. It's a nice looking rifle, the synthetic stock looks pretty good and is quite comfortable. It has a similar feel to the old Savage .22 competition rifles of my youth. The sights are interesting. The front has a fiber optic tube and the rear has two fiber optic dots to either side of the notch. The sights are easily adjustable.I have not shot the gun yet. Im waiting for my neighbors to go out so I can shoot in the basement
