From another forum. "Re: AR15 Front Sight ...In front of Scope Actually the front sight does block some light reaching the eye. The amount of blockage is the area of the front sight subtracted from the area of the objective lens. Probably a loss of around 20% of the light. . Since the human eye auto-adjusts for brightness it's not noticable at all. If the front sight were shiny it could scatter light into the field of view, but being black that is unlikely to be enough light to be noticeable. " BTW, your keyboard must need cleaning - the caps and quotation keys seem to be stuck..... >:D

This has been a great thread to watch unfold - thanks for sharing. I am pretty new to the black rifle, I traded a Garand for my first AR about 2 years ago. By far the biggest improvement in repeatable accuracy for me was ammunition. I initially purchased 800 rounds of Tula factory ammo. Teflon coated, steel-cased 55gr stuff. It was cheap and worked just fine during my learning curve with a new rifle. Then a friend and I split 1000 rnds of commercial reloads - 62 gr bullets, and wow. What a difference. The two targets were fired on the same day, all conditions the same, just different ammunition. The one flyer on target#2 was all me, tried holding the rifle differently.

That might be fun. I found some printable BR targets a while back, and had to read up on it to understand what the object was. I think I will need a golf cart to lug this CM2 around - it is a heavy gun. Thanks for the idea of putting a scope on it!

Goodluck plinkster - I think my new spring was $12. TM

So, last year I picked up this used Russian .22 olympic style training rifle. Stripped and refinished the stock, and while the rifle was flawless in operation, accuracy kinda sucked. As always, I figured the accuracy issue was mine, we are talking aperture sights and tri-focals - not a good mix. Anyway, MicroGunner also has one of these and had a scope put on his..... So I put a scope on mine also. Took it to the range yesterday - wow! At 50 yards and from a bench, I can almost use the same hole in the target. I was shooting Federal bulk ammo and using a cheap scope. I think this is a keeper. ;D PS - That is a 6" target and a 5 shot group.

Hey Plinkster, Back when I got my Colt, the owners manual did not specify a setting for the bolt speed, and stated not to adjust it unless you had problems with a certain type of ammo. There was a Colt u-tube vid that specified 9 turns in, so I did that, and the spring was eventually destroyed. I run it at 4 turns in from flush, per email from Umarex Service Dept, as I only use high velocity ammo. Have not had any further issues. FWIW, the internals of this rifle are made from Zamak - which is a zink alloy. I think if the bumper was made of a harder material, it would be the Zamak parts that would break. You might want to think about ordering a new spring - it just might be weak, which would allow the bolt to impact the bumper. My 2 cents. TM PS - Your manual says to screw it in all the way??? How weird. I just checked the manual that is posted here, and it is like mine as far as the bolt setting is concerned, page #19. Can you scan that page in yours and post it?

Cool, I remember how excited I was to get in my club. No more renting stalls by the 1/2 hour. Congrats!

That is sucky.

Hey Dan - I do know that an air soft rail fits my Colt perfectly. I put the licensed Troy Battle Rail on mine. Our resident expert on this issue is vlhoang. If you have some specific questions/parts needs he can set you up. HERE is a link to a great build he did a while back, and it shows the Colt internals in an airsoft receiver. TM

Two pair custom walnut burl grips for two Llama 9mm 1911s.

I had a Mosquito, but sold it to a friend. Mine was prone to a lot of jamming until I found the addendum to the manual that said I was supposed to oil the small hole near the extractor - no problems after that. I have no experience with the Ruger. My current & favorite .22 pistol is the GSG1911. That is one fun gun! Good luck with your decision, or just make it easy on yourself and get them both. ;D

Guess $40 is not too bad, could have been worse. I like my Colt also :thumb:

That looks like a nice scope, I especially like the BDC for .22lr. I don't know about using it at 25 yds, description said to zero it at 50 yds, and the BDC is good out to 150. Shooting the 36gn Federal Bulk, POI would be 1.3" lower than POA at 25yds. So, zero at 50, shoot about 1.5" low at 25 & all should work. Excepting high magnification - that would probably be an issue at short range. TM

Sounds like someone had a fun day! :thumb:

Cool. Is it going on the Lee-Enfield? -
Sounds like a fun project. You can try Jack First gun parts in South Dakota, (605-343-9544) and HoosierGunWorks.com. Also try a internet search for obsolete gun parts - you will get a bunch of hits for small shops, be prepared to make a few calls. Good Luck!

Thank you sir.

Welcome 1911. I have the Colt M4, and I like it alot. I shoot it more than any other rifle I own. But due to the difference between gas operation and blow back operation, the Colt and an AR are of course very different in the internals and some external controls. For example - the "bolt release" on the Colt M4 .22 is just a decoration. Most AR parts and accessories will not fit on the Colt without modification, unless it is rail mounted. The Colt uses an air soft receiver, and I found that air soft accessories fit it just fine. :thumb:

Bummer. I think you will have to get it from Umarex. However, the Colt's receiver is actually an airsoft receiver. At least airsoft handguards fit just fine. You can go HERE and contact Tim & ask him. A temporary fix is always JB Quick Weld. That stuff can fix anything. Good luck & let us know how it turns out!
