well i have a bit of a problem and basically someone asked me to help him with a sticking bolt on a Remington 770,  so i said show me so he put an empty case in it and it jammed shut and could not get the bolt to shift, well he said it happened before and he used a hammer to open it, well long story short the bolt handle came off now 2 1/2 years later he is demanding that i pay for the rifle bolt replacement and to pay for the shipping back to Remington and i phoned a gun shop and found out how much it would cost to repair and they said between $50-$70 as it is only a simple silver solder (as per how it was made in the first place) and re blue not a hard job well i phoned the guy to say i could get it fixed and the  person went mad and started an argument with me and then slammed the phone down i haven't phoned the person back but just want some advice please help  >:(

If this is a relative or business associate come to an agreement. If it's a friend he certainly is showing his true colors. Write him off. Is this person in Texas or the UK?

No good deed goes unpunished. I think you did the right thing - offer to have it repaired, if he blows you off, oh well. One question - was he shooting reloads? If yes, all bets and warranties are off.

Imao 37 it sounds like you have made the offer to repair, even though you are not at fault. This guys behavior is that of a child who seeks to shift the blame for his own actions onto your shoulders. This can put you into a real touchy situation as far as family functions, but keep your bride aware of your efforts to pacify this guy. You will find that he has done this sort of thing to others in the family, and the people in the family that matter won't hold this fool's behavior against you. Look them all in the eye if the subject comes up and say '' I've done my best to resolve this situation, he won't hear of it, so I'm done with it''. I would then drop it. He needs a good old-fashioned punch in the nose, but he would probably love to get you in a situation where he could take legal action. All families have JERKS in them, and learning to steer clear of them is part of family interaction. Good Luck and be patient....P.S. this firearm sounds like it has been overpressured with bad reloads, he will kill himself eventually shooting like this....The lugs on the bolt are blasted.

funny i took the said person to the rifle range and he did say he had shot reloads through it and they had used a hammer to open the bolt when he had shot it last and it was a reload,  my misses already knows everything as she was the one who told me that he had called wanting the money for the repair and she has spoken to another  family member and they said that i have been more than reasonable offering to repair the rifle but  if he refuses the offer of repair then just forget about it.

funny he did say he had shot reloads through it!,

As far as I know, shooting reloads voids all manufactures warranties. It is possible that there was a round fired that exceeded max pressure and damaged the firearm.

You have done the right thing, offering to repair the bolt.

TechMike is right, warranty is null and void if non factory ammo exceeding factory pressures has been fired through the weapon. Frankly, I'd wonder if the bolt seizing in the locks is a symtom of a distorted receiver. Even if he accepted your offer to repair the bolt the damage is beyond that, and sure as heck not your fault.

The guy is being a bonehead, and you cannot fix that.
