trant
Hi. I just went to an indoor range that allows pistols of any caliber, shotguns, and rimfire rifles, but they didn't allow me to shoot my S&W, even though it's a rimfire. I'm curious; why is this? Is it because the S&W is more powerful than a regular .22 rifle?
imschur
Perhaps they arent grasping that its a dedicated .22. Ive been at indoor ranges with my AR-15 and wished to use a .22 conversion kit. Everyone was real nervous about me accidentally switching back to centerfire. In the end I always got to use it but not without several people verifying the conversion unit was in place.a .22lr is a .22lr regardless of the delivery system.Did they give you an explanation? Madhouse
It's in no way any more powerful than any other rimfire, it's just scarier. ;DI can't imagine folks at a shooting range can't grasp the fact that it's a dedicated .22lr
Longitude Zero
It sounds like they need to be educated about the weapon.
Cyclone
Wow I would think that the folks running an indoor range would be up on the weapons and would already know about the MP as well as the others that are a dedicated 22
trant
The guy seemed to know that it was a dedicated .22LR, but he said that the policy at the range forbids any rifle that looks like an AR.

27 Beck
It sounds like they need to be educated about the weapon. How true. Seems the range has bought into the anti-gun "assault rifle" BS. Curious as to what area this range is located.
Microgunner
Maybe part of an agreement made with a local Anti chapter to avoid them picketing their establishment. Even pro gunners will do anti things in order to protect their income in the short term.
asmurff
I think I'd like to talk to the owner/manager and find their reasoning, or if the employee got caught not knowing what the MP-15 was but when he found out wasn't going to admit he was wrong. trant
This gun range is in Elk Grove, California. I've read really bad reviews online on employees/management, so I don't think talking to anyone will help. *sighs*

I am assuming your 15-22 has the 10 round mags  I didn't realize they were available yet.
trant
My MP 15-22 has the 10-round mag, but it looks exactly like the 25-round version. I guess S&W modified the 25-round mag to 10 for CA. Yes. CA always has alot of gun restrictions. >:(
ecan95242
when i started reading this i was thinking this sounds a lot like the nearest range to me....IT IS!!! lol...their policy was no weapons that look like assault rifles because they got complaints from someone when they allowed them long ago. they do however allow them again. it has to be a dedicated .22 or if you have a converted ar then they said they need to check and make sure you dont have any rounds other than .22 . i have also read a lot of bad reviews about them but i have always great help there...i just wouldnt buy anything other than targets and .22s when they have them because it seems everything is over priced

techmike
I know it's a drive from Elk Grove - But I always liked the ranges out at Ione. There was a 200 yd range that was fun - no range master. And I used to shoot high power on the 1000 yd range. (I used to live in Rancho Cordova.) You might contact the Folsom Shooting Club for range info. If you are a member, you can also fish the ponds.Good luck!TM
ecan95242
hmmm...I may have to look into that, I used to work just a little bit further to the east for the forest service and I used to go shooting out there when I was younger with boy scouts. but after all, all I have are .22s and pistols so no real need for a "long" range. techmike
I understand about the .22/long range. They do have shorter ranges. Also, Folsom Shooting Club used to put on high power weekend shoots. You paid a small fee, and all day Saturday was orientation and training, Sunday was the shoot - we took turns in the target pits, the targets are raised up, then down for scoring and patching, and then shooting. Each shooter was provided with a M-1 Garand, a bandoleer of ammo, and a coach. We got to shoot at 200, 400 and 600 yards - great fun weekend! There was also an outdoor range on Sunrise Blvd., south of Folsom Blvd, East of Mather Field. !00 yd rifle, 25 0r 35 pistol, and they also had a silhouette lane for .rimfire.TM
crashoverrideplik
I have a CMMG Quebec A .22 and a M&P 15-22. I had issues with both at 2 different indoor ranges until I let one of the guys shoot them both. Now I have no issues and I think I've helped them sell quite a few .22 AR's. ;D
Old Salt
Wow...time to find a new rangeYep. That would be the last of my business with him. What a dip! >:(
