asmurff Posted August 25, 2011 Report Posted August 25, 2011 Your whole region has just been beat up this year. My parent live in NJ and I know they've had enough.
imschur Posted August 25, 2011 Author Report Posted August 25, 2011 We no longer get normal showers. Everything is violent
Microgunner Posted August 25, 2011 Report Posted August 25, 2011 And it's a bad one. Batten down the hatches.
imschur Posted August 26, 2011 Author Report Posted August 26, 2011 Just an FYI, It's quite possible that sometime after Midnight Saturday I will go offline for days. Thats what they are preparing us for at least
Tal Posted August 26, 2011 Report Posted August 26, 2011 As a long time Gulf Coast resident, I feel for you..Hang in there..The storm is usually not the real bad part. It's the aftermath. No electricity. Hence no food, no gas, no traffic lights, fallen trees..That's the part that sucks...And evacutating can be a nightmare as well, if you decide to go that route.. Hurricane Rita, 27 hours to get to Austin, a 180 mile trip. And ALL kinds of people sharing the roadway with you.Hang in there Drew, and let us know as soon as you can that you guys are doing well....Talked to headquarters, and they're battening down the hatches in Bloomfield, but I think they'll be allright as far inland as they are..Hang in there!!!
Tal Posted August 26, 2011 Report Posted August 26, 2011 bloomfield ct? 20 mins from homeYep...Headquarters are there...I'm remotely stationed in Houston.
imschur Posted August 27, 2011 Author Report Posted August 27, 2011 Well we are still half of a day a way from the storm hitting and the sky is already quite ominous. NYC is shutting down, NJ is making some highways one direction only. It looks like here in CT they are talking about closing highways and such. A lot of people are really freaking out.I have been through hurricanes before here in CT as well as Florida as a youth staying with my grandparents. The thing that strikes me differently and causes my concern with Irene is the size and speed. This thing is just crawling. All the others I have been through were in and out. They are talking 18 hours of sustained wind and rain with Irene.
techmike Posted August 27, 2011 Report Posted August 27, 2011 I am confused. If one listens to or reads MSM, this hurricane is the end of the world. But if you go to Drudge, there are pics of folk surfing, watching waves, and some scientist saying "Scientist mocks: Phony 'Hurricane' Coming On Shore With 33 MPH Winds...". So... I'm confused. Whichever, stay safe you guys!
asmurff Posted August 27, 2011 Report Posted August 27, 2011 MSM hasn't told the truth in so long they just can't bring themselves to do anymore.
imschur Posted August 27, 2011 Author Report Posted August 27, 2011 Well I will know in a few hours. If you guys never hear from me again somebody make sure my 4 suppressors make it to my next trusteeJoJo's Gunworks122 Spring Street D9 Southington, CT 06489
Microgunner Posted August 27, 2011 Report Posted August 27, 2011 If you guys never hear from me again somebody make sure my 4 suppressors make it to my next trustee Maybe...or maybe I'll forge a power of attorney and take them. ;D
George Wood Posted August 27, 2011 Report Posted August 27, 2011 I have worked for FEMA for over 18 years and I can tell you we are at the highest level of activation I have ever seen. All of my team is now 12 on 12 off with no idea of a stand down date. Remember "Trust me I am from the Government. I am here to help".Imschur: I really hope the storm is kind to you.
rodent.22 Posted August 28, 2011 Report Posted August 28, 2011 Maybe...or maybe I'll forge a power of attorney and take them. ;DI'll help!!! >:D >:D >:D >:D >:D
imschur Posted August 28, 2011 Author Report Posted August 28, 2011 Well the rain was brutal last night. We are about an hour away from Irene touching down a little to my west. My pump keeps getting clogged with leaves. 350, 000 without electricity. In looking forward to this fucker coming in and getting its shit over with.
Tal Posted August 28, 2011 Report Posted August 28, 2011 Glad to hear you made it Drew..Thank god it was just a baby..
imschur Posted August 28, 2011 Author Report Posted August 28, 2011 Well storm has passed, much flooding, tree damage everywhere, no power for drew
techmike Posted August 28, 2011 Report Posted August 28, 2011 Glad you are OK, hope the clean-up goes well. :thumb:
imschur Posted August 30, 2011 Author Report Posted August 30, 2011 Well we have power back but wont have phone and internet until around Sept 9. My posting will be sparse because doing it via phone is painful as hell
asmurff Posted August 30, 2011 Report Posted August 30, 2011 Hang in there, hopefully the recovery will be swift.
rodent.22 Posted August 31, 2011 Report Posted August 31, 2011 I've got a Northern generator, 8000 watt 13 horse Honda engine. Thirstiest bastard I've ever seen. Still beats the hell out of being out here in the country for 2 weeks with no power, no water, no refrigerator and no hot water. Been there and done that, NO fun....
