The M&P is Made in the US, but this .22 is made by Walther like the Colt 1911 .22. Walther seems to be cornering the market on clone .22's. They do a good job of it, no doubt.

Not to mention S&W is the Walther distributor. Who know if the ties are deeper.

Metal fram is interesting. I had not noticed that.

When ISSC released their M22 Glock clone, they were sued and had to change it a little.  Here S&W, by issuing their new .22 lookalike M&P, can take advantage of the fact that it is a clone and has a built in market.  At 24 oz, I imagine M&P owners will find the M&P .22's  feel similar to perhaps the mid-sized M&P's.  I don't know how the dimension's of each gun compares.

I think that Glock missed an opportunity to sell some "official" Glock .22 clones. Who knows, probably next week Walther will come out with one.

Walther doesnt actually make them per se ...Umarex makes the walther products.

Umarex owns Walther now....and they also make guns for RWS, Walther, Hämmerli, Beretta, Colt, Smith & Wesson, HK, Ruger®, Browning, Makarov, Tactical Force, Magnum Research, and Combat Zone.

The HK .22's are Umarex, the Colt .22's are Umarex, and the Walther .22's are Umarex.

Its a gigantic logistical nightmare. For instance...the Walther P22, is made by Umarex in Germany, for the Walther brand (which they own), and imported by Umarex USA, and distributed by Smith & Wesson.

Glock went after S&W a few years back, and the result is the Sigma.

http://www.notpurfect.com/main/sigma.html

I'll admit to it...I own a S&W 40 cal Sigma. NOT once has this gun failed in ANY way..And that is with just target ammo run through..Even Blazer Brass..(A guy at the range gave me a box of 100..Said it wouldn't eject out of his Sig) All 97 remaing rounds of Blazer Brass fired failure free out of the Sigma.

Not one failure, after about 2000 rounds. The damn 11 lb trigger pull is the only drag on this gun. Every shot is like shooting double action..

Does spoil you when you get used to the 4 to 5 lb. Berreta, FNH, etc.. pull..

Kewl, I own no .40s in my collection and it's to late to change now, or we'd destroy our commonality of ammunition we have to keep on hand and have the capability to reload.
